Bonus Track: Ron Carter
Friday, September 02, 2011
There was so much to talk about with jazz bass legend Ron Carter that we only got to hear he and his trio perform two tunes live on the air. Luckily for us, he and the rest of his trio stuck around after we went off the air to record a third piece. Take a listen to the group's take on Fletcher Henderson's "Soft Winds" in this Soundcheck web extra.
In Studio: Ron Carter
Friday, September 02, 2011
Bassist Ron Carter has been a staple of the jazz scene since performing alongside Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock in the 1960s. But in a career that spans more than fifty years and appearances on more than 2000 albums, his upcoming release is an experiment of sorts. It's titled "Ron Carter's Great Big Band," and it is, surprisingly enough, Ron Carter's first recording as the leader of a big band. He joins us with a pared down trio to perform tunes from that album and a few others, live in the studio.
