Marcia Young

Marcia Young: Variety is the spice of life. Marcia hosts overnight shows for WQXR.

For Marcia Young, variety is indeed the spice of life. She loves indulging in the rich sound world of pre-Baroque music as much as she relishes exploring the rhythmic variety of jazz and bossa nova. But when Marcia cycles across the bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan, she tunes her ears acutely to the environmental sounds around her.

A self-proclaimed free spirit, Marcia values independence above all else. In addition to her on-air work at WQXR, she is also Director of Performance Studies at Stern College, Yeshiva University, where she leads an inspiring cohort of young women; a music journalist, with such credits as Playbill and Opera News to her name; Listings Editor at Thirteen/WNET; and a vocalist and harpist in various early music ensembles.

Her many roles require constant adaptability, yet they are all founded upon a singular desire that is a core tenet of Marcia’s personality: bringing joy to audiences, whether that be in the classroom, the concert hall, or over the airwaves. When Marcia isn’t in the studio, you can find her cycling or swimming, catching a performance by any one of New York’s brilliant dance companies, or getting gigue-y with it in a period dance class, exploring the rhythmic heartbeat of the music she adores.
