Mayor Bloomberg has indicated he will accept a compromise in which Cathie Black will be granted a waiver to serve as Schools Chancellor, if she elevates deputy chancellor Shael Polakow-Suransky to the post of Chief Academic Officer. Polakow-Suransky's predecessor, former DOE chief accountability officer James Liebman and current Simon H. Rifkind Professor of Law at Columbia Law School, discusses the deal.
