At the same time, he was dancing to Northern Soul and going to his first concerts that included Steve Lacy playing solo in a pub and Steve Reich opening his Sheffield University concert with Clapping Music.

He’s been involved in music in many different capacities: working as a record store clerk; writing for The Wire magazine and others; studying jazz with Don Cherry; playing in early '90s Psychic TV; co-running the independent electronic music label Reflective Records; recording as Capries with Jonah Sharp; hosting the radio show On The Corner; co-running / DJing at club night Rude Movements (apt, NYC); touring club night Demon Days (with Carl Craig), and more.
Since 1999, Gamall has run the boutique Brooklyn-based music PR company Backspin Promotions that is focused on working with independent labels and breaking new talent. He has been fortunate to help advance the careers of a wide range of talent including Jlin, J Dilla, Matthew Dear and DJ Rashad. He also acts as a music consultant for Unsound Festival and Q Department.
When not breathing music, Gamall studies Japanese Tea Ceremony at Urasenke New York.
