Poll: NJ Voters Don't See a Christie Run, and Don't Think He'd Win
Wednesday, April 20, 2011
New Jersey voters prefer Barack Obama to Chris Christie, according to a new poll from Quinnipiac University. The president scored higher approval ratings, and only a third believe that their governor could beat Obama in race for the White House. But most don't think that's going to happen - 53 percent of New Jerseyans believe Christie when he says he's not running for president.
And that was Christie's message again yesterday at a town hall in Jackson. He talked about 2013, not 2012 -- that's when he's up for reelection for his current job. And to help him with that, he appealed to supporters in Republican-heavy Ocean County to turn pressure on legislators to pass ethics bills and spending cuts to help local governments. Here's his latest youtube video from the town hall, which he calls "my message for the Do-Nothing Legislature."
New Jerseyans have taken note of Christie's style. Today's poll also asked state voters to describe their governor in one word. Last June, "44 percent called him a leader and 43 percent called him a bully." The mix is a little different this time:
- Bully - offered by 140 voters
- Arrogant - offered 41 times
- Good - 41
- Aggressive - 39
- Strong - 35
- Tough - 34
- Determined - 30
- Honest/Honesty - 28
- Excellent - 27
- Bold - 16
- Courageous/Courage - 16
- Trying - 15
- Effective - 13
- Forceful - 12
Apparently aware of his rep, Christie warned his audience before he took questions, that if if they took him on, he'd take them on right back.
"Some people decide this is their moment to be rude and disrespectful and yell and say nasty things. And here's the rule. The rule is -- and it applies to all of us, because we're from New Jersey, and we don't take that stuff," he said to applause. "If you give it to me, I'm giving it back, and that's the way it works."

NY19's Hayworth: Trade Health Care Repeals for Debt Ceiling Vote
Monday, April 18, 2011
Freshman Rep. Nan Hayworth (R-NY19) told the American Medical Group Association on Saturday that the GOP leadership wants repealing health care legislation on the table as they negotiate the terms of a debt ceiling vote, reports MedicalHealthCare.com.
Rep. Hayworth said the price Obama pays for getting the GOP-led House to agree to raising the federal debt ceiling might be the repeal of major parts of the Affordable Care Act. She added that the GOP is also working on a replacement for the reform law in response to the demands made by the public in 2008 to change the nation's healthcare system.
