Brian Wilson's complex arrangements and studio genius produced one of the first folk-rock hits ("Sloop John B") in the mid 1960s, and several singles on the pop music charts that could probably each stand alone as American Icons - "Wouldn't it be Nice," "God Only Knows," and "Caroline, No."
