Blue skies and sea air
and laughter
I hear children giggling
together
catching crabs in
the kiddie pools,
the water is
knee high
warmed by the sun
in the summer
when the grown-ups
are talking,
lying on beach towels
umbrellas and coolers
cover the sand
I look for
seashells as I breath
in salty air
with a gleam in my eye.
As for the children
knocking down sand castles
and screeching at seagulls
who are told to be seen
but not heard,
their freedom
we’d surely
be lucky
to learn
