Fireflys and Stars
A sonnet
When fireflys emerge to light the dark,
and little twinkles shining to and fro,
They blink and light the grass within the park,
Their shining sheckles dancing high and low.
And many men have tried to match their song,
And many men have tried their daring dance,
But still the lights outshine them all along,
Though men still try without a shining chance.
So far away they fly above the sky,
Those shining sheckles dancing in the night,
The stars above until at last they die,
And dying doom the world of men to light.
But men have tried, and men have failed to fly,
Caught gazing up into the lighted sky.
