R. Crumb is a fitting representative for a whole generation of artists who believed in the comics medium. Publishing on their own, they defied all the mores and conventions of mainstream media, to produce a graphic equivalent to the Underground Radio that was also breaking the sex-drugs taboo of the mainstream.
