Whale watchers identify 500th humpback in NYC waters since 2012

New York whale watchers have spotted the 500th total humpback whale in local waters, which they say shows their growing role in the local ecosystem.

Chris Saint Lawrence is the communications director at Gotham Whale, a non profit organization keeping track of whales in our local waterways. He joins WNYC's Sean Carlson to talk more about what it means that the whale population in our waterways is increasing.
