Born in Benin, West Africa, singer Angélique Kidjo divides her time between Paris and Brooklyn, where her bookshelf is sagging under the weight of all the Grammys she’s won. Kidjo is a superstar on the global music scene, and an enormously influential figure throughout Africa, especially for young women and girls. Her music blends the sounds of Afropop, Cuban music, soul, funk, and jazz, and is usually an invitation to dance. She and her band play a free show on Sunday evening, Aug. 23 as part of Central Park SummerStage.
