In Season: seafood
WNYC News | Aug 7
Seafood like squid and bass is often abundant, cheap and caught just hours before you pick it up at market. Amelia Tarpey, Program and Publicity Manager for GrowNYC Greenmarkets, said squid in particular is a lot of bang for your buck. Because squid has a life span of just about one to two years, they reproduce quickly, and are one of the lesser sought after items at seafood stands, the price point is lower than many other seafood. It's also perfect for summertime dishes because it takes just a few minutes to cook. Blanch it in some salty water and slice it up to make a Southeast Asian inspired squid salad, or grill it whole to pair with a fresh summer tomato sauce. Right now, squid is going for $11 to $15 per pound.
