The sounds of Near Eastern music, surf guitar, and spaghetti Western soundtracks are the unlikely combination of ingredients in the musical stew that is Habibi Gün. Founded by the rock producer and multi-instrumentalist Josh Farrar, almost as a lark, the band has developed a serious – but still fun – approach to its swirling, often psychedelic mix of East and West. Farrar has been at this for a decade now, and Habibi Gün’s songs during that time have referenced everything from Egyptian belly dance music to heavy metal. They play tonight, on August 12, at Barbès, in Brooklyn.
