Listen to music by the highly influential trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Miles Davis from some of his classic recordings and some of the unlikely musicians that he influenced over half a century later like the Newcastle folk band The Unthanks, and Canadian music producer Nick Schofield.

Hear some of the Miles Davis record, Sketches of Spain (1960) featuring some of 20th Century Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, as arranged by Gil Evans – and performed by classical and jazz players. Then, listen to the lingering echoes of Sketches of Spain in music by The Unthanks – who are a folk-rooted outfit (traditional music of the North East of England) co-fronted by the Tyneside/Newcastle-based sisters Rachel and Becky Unthank.

Also, hear some of Miles Davis’ “Shhh/Peaceful” as well as an ambient ode to Miles Davis' In A Silent Way, from Canadian synthesist and drummer Nick Schofield, featuring trumpet player Scott Bevins, and more. - Caryn Havlik
