DOLUNAY at Barbès
July 14. 7PM $20.

Dolunay is a trio based in Brooklyn that plays Turkish music - specifically, the music of the regions of southeast Europe that used to be under Ottoman control. The name Dolunay means “Full Moon,” and the band uses traditional instruments and vocal techniques to recreate songs that sometimes have an almost blues-y cast, and others that are more like dances. They have a song called “Rodop Dağları engindir,” or “the Rhodope Mountains are vast” – a song about the mountain range in what is now Bulgaria. Dolunay brings the sounds of the former Turkish regions of Europe to the Brooklyn club Barbès on Tues., July 14.
