#5025, Electroacoustic Music

New Sounds | Aug 28

Hear acoustic sounds with electronic production from Irish violinist Darragh Morgan, the Vermont duo Platform8, Polish composer Stefan Wesolowski, and Amsterdam-based Wanderwelle.

Listen to Irish violinist Darragh Morgan from his most recent album, For Violin and Electronics II, in electroacoustic work with an ebb and flow by Irish composer Irene Buckley. Later, listen to a shimmering playful work by Northern Irish composer Hannah Peel, also from Darragh Morgan’s most recent album. There’s a bit of ominous music by Polish composer, cellist, and violinist Stefan Wesolowski, turbo-charged with timpani attacks.

Hear music by Alex Somers and Aska Matsumiya from the sound installation for the French artist Claire Tabouret's exhibition If Only The Sea Could Sleep. The work features the harp playing of Mary Lattimore and the cello of Icelandic musician Gyða Valtýsdóttir, along with field recordings of maritime sounds: boats croaking and chimes swinging in the wind. Then, listen to music by Amsterdam-based collective Wanderwelle from their album of electro-acoustic threnodies for an environment at risk due to the effects caused by receding coastlines around the globe. Plus, hear music from composer and visual artist Amanda Berlind’s audiovisual solo album Green Cones; atmospheric music for an installation from films by the Klezmatics; and more. - Caryn Havlik
