Twenty years ago, Andrew Bird announced himself as a singular figure on the indie rock scene with his album The Mysterious Production of Eggs. A singer who could croon with the best of them, Bird also turned out to be a virtuoso whistler, and while he could play the guitar, his main instrument was – and still is – the violin, which he often played through a looping device. The resultant sound world was a little pop, a little classical, and a little strange. Now, Andrew Bird and the Wordless Orchestra are playing the whole album live, tonight, on August 6, at Central Park SummerStage, and it’s free.
