The man who gave the FAA order to land all planes on 9/11

We begin a week of remembrance, looking back on the events of 9/11, with a man who was confronted by an almost unimaginable situation on his first day on the job.

Ben Sliney's first day as National Operations Manager for the Federal Aviation Administration was September 11, 2001. That morning, he ordered all planes still in the air after the terror attacks to land at the nearest airport. Speaking with Weekend Edition host David Furst, he talks about why he calls the FAA's response that day, "The finest moment of the air traffic and aviation system in America."
