What to know about sharks in NYC-area beaches this summer

Sharks are on some beachgoers' minds after a series of shark sightings on city beaches and after a swimmer at Jones Beach was bitten by “unknown marine life” over the July 4 weekend.

Hans Walters is a marine biologist and curator at New York Aquarium overseeing the aquarium shark program. He’s studied sharks for more than 25 years. He joins WNYC's Sean Carlson to talk more about what beachgoers need to know about sharks and beach safety.
