In Season: apples

WNYC News | 2 hours ago

Nothing can be certain in life except death, taxes and apple season in New York.

It seems like mostly everyone in the state makes a yearly pilgrimage to their local market for their favorite apple variety, whether that's the aptly-named honeycrisp or autumn crisp, or their more recently-developed relatives, the SnapDragon and RubyFrost.

Amelia Tarpey, Program and Publicity Manager for GrowNYC Greenmarkets, said even the mushiness of more controversial varieties, like the McIntosh and the Red Delicious, are perfect for making a big batch of applesauce.

Right now at Greenmarkets, apples go for about $3 to $5 per pound.
