#4939, Ojai On The Air 2024, Part 2 of 2
New Sounds and the long-running, adventurous Ojai Music Festival present exclusive performances in an ongoing collaboration called Ojai On the Air. Listen to music recorded at the 2024 Ojai Music Festival, where, for 78 years, the Festival has blended the sounds of classical music and more exploratory things as well, each year under the guidance of a different music director. The 2024 Music Director was the Grammy-Award winning Mitsuko Uchida, known as a peerless interpreter of the works of Mozart, Schubert, Schumann and Beethoven and one of the most universally admired pianists and artists of our time.
Listen to Ojai On the Air 2024 Part 1
Hear exclusive performances from the annual four-day festival in Southern California, featuring members of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and German-based Dutch double bass soloist Rick Stotijn. Stotjin is also in a band called ORBI (Oscillating Revenge of Background Instruments) which plays symphonic rock, blues and metal in a 'chamber music' setting. Please sample “Fight Fire With Fire”:
There's also decidedly un-Zen music by New York composer John Zorn, as played by accordionist Ljubinka Kulisic, from an early Sunday morning solo program of works "played with meditative focus", (—@latimes). Plus, revisit a work from the 2021 Ojai Music Festival by Dylan Mattingly, the American composer and cellist, who is executive and co-artistic director of NY-based new-music group Contemporaneous. His work, Sunt Lacrimae Rerum (these are the tears of things), was written for the LA Philharmonic New Music Group, and calls for two harps and two alternately-tuned pianos. - Caryn Havlik
