- WNYC whitewashing and abetting police brutality in all its reporting, including this Brian Lehrer discussion, is morally corrupt and deeply disgusting.
- Why is this WNYC report so biased against the demonstrators and so supportive of apparent police misconduct?
Why does your opening paragraph accuse the demonstrators of initiating violence against the police, which is certainly not backed up by any photo evidence? Shouldn’t fairness require you to have at least spared your tendentious “when demonstrators clashed with police”? In fact, doesn’t the video evidence indicate that a more accurate description would have been “when police attacked demonstrators”?
Why does your second paragraph parrot the police line rather than reporting, more fairly, “Police said that they had arrested dozens of people, most on charges of . . .”? Why, instead of making that kind of fair statement, did you slant the report in a form designed to inculcate that the demonstrators are guilty of what the police charge, whereas the video evidence so far seen indicates that the police attacked peaceful demonstrators, acting out of police rage and with excessively disproportionate violence, especially towards women?
- Why wasn’t Mr Kissinger confuted as he tried to take the audience thru the looking glass by floating his absurd pretense that the wisdom of supporting the Shah, despite his dictatorial governance, was proved by the virulent antiAmerican theocracy that erupted after the Shah was overthrown, whereas, patently, to put the cart back behind the horse, that antiAmerican aftermath was caused precisely by our support of the Shah (going back to the CIA coup that killed Mossadegh and put the Shah in power)?

WNYC and/or Jami Floyd have surreptitiously altered her post here, responding silently to the comment I posted yesterday (07.01 at 12:09), by replacing the prejudicial use of “victim” throughout with “accuser”, which is commendable, but leaving her original posting time (11:26 AM) while concealing any trace that the orginal post was altered, which cannot be acceptable journalism.
Because I only glanced quickly at Ms Floyd’s post yesterday, I do not know if other alterations have been made to it, but there’s no way to depend on the authenticity of any WNYC posts given this practice of surreptitious emendations. I urge WNYC to always maintain its original postings, warts and all, and to clearly indicate any subsequent corrections and why and when they were made.
I have no journalism credentials beyond reading Orwell, Murray Kempton, and the like, but isn’t it obvious to all that transparency, willingness to accept criticism openly, and refusal to succumb to temptation to hide mistakes are crucial elements of all decent journalism?
- The prejudice of WNYC and of Ms Floyd in continuing to refer to the anonymous complainant as a victim is unprofessional and unethical.
Note that it continues to appear in the intro to Free Country blog, and that Ms Floyd used the term even at the end of her appearance on BL a few minutes ago.
- Perhaps they could do a show on the apothegm “No one ever goes broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public”. Try to track down its origin, explore its ongoing resonance.
- @ Ms Sale: The election would not be for “giggles”, even if it is going to be redistricted out, because if the Dems don’t win it, they’d have to give up yet another seat.
