  • I've visited the Hoboken Historical Museum and it is awesome. Amazing amount of fascinating info, lots of great historic photos of the metro area, and it is really impressive how much important national history Hoboken touched - World War I, the shipyards, lots of national brand industry (Tootsie Rolls, Maxwell House Coffee, etc). Great staff in a beautiful location. Go visit!

  • Oh Leonard - that was mighty disappointing. And pete from brooklyn - do you tip your barber? Taxi-driver? Pizza delivery person? Valet? You could say the same thing about many service providers. If you don't like tipping your servers - don't go out, ride in a taxt, order pizza, get a haircut, etc.

  • While Joe the Basta was describing how to turn "nickels into dollars" you had the perfect opportunity to ask him if that includes squeezing the waitstaff. Leonard, did you agree ahead of time not to mention the lawsuit?

  • Will you ask Lidia's little boy about the the court-ordered class action $5.25M settlement he and Batali have to pay all the servers they ripped off? And don't let him get away with saying it was the most expedient way to move on - he swore up and down he would fight because they were right. The lawsuit proved that Bastianich and Batali skimmed so much money off their servers tips their wages were below minimum wage and they did not pay waitstaff overtime for shifts that exceed 10 hours. There restaurants should be boycotted. What's infuriating is that they are the ones that got caught - there are probably many other high-end, celebrity driven restaurants that do the same things (look up the $2.5M lawsuit DeNiro had to settle for Nobu). Bastianich is an ignorant moron. He is a repulsive tv presence on his mother's show.

  • So if Time magazine's cover story is celebrating the 20th anniversary of publication of Dr. Bill Sears' book, why didn't Time put a picture of him on the cover? That's the conversation you should be having. Time is exploitative.

  • Here's a list of retired NJ State workers with $100K pensions. Very few teachers - the really big pensions go to BOE workers.

  • Jesus, Brian - what is today -how billionaires can save the world day? First Broad now former Gates Foundation administer and Broad Institute board member Stonesifer. Corporatist "philanthropist" who just push papers around and ultimately make sure the status quo is maintained.

  • Eli Broad, along with the Gates Foundation and the Walton Family Foundation, are the three biggest funders of the privatization of our public education system. The problem with our education system is poverty - why don't these billionaires do something about that? Of course he disagrees with all the studies that show charter schools are not doing any better, and sometimes worse, than public schools. So he's going to spend some of his millions concocting a study that says the opposite. Completely out of touch 1%-er who didn't send his kids to public school and has no idea what it's like to live on the margins. http://www.dissentmagazine.org/article/?article=3781
