DOE Abandons Plan for Queens G&T Program

Ocean Hill-Brownsville Lifts School Zones

Parent leaders in Ocean Hill-Brownsville have voted to eliminate zoning boundaries for kindergarten students next fall, allowing families to apply to all schools in the district regardless of where they live. District 6 Zoning Proposal Sparks Debate Over Choice

There are dueling approaches to school choice in northern Manhattan's District 6: one would eliminate elementary school zones so families can apply to any school while another wants families to fight for improvements at the struggling schools so there isn't such pressure on the better schools in the district.

Rezoning Plan for District 2 Has Many Parents Unhappy

The third and final education council zoning committee hearing on the Department of Education's rezoning proposal for District 2 is scheduled for Tuesday night, and parents are expected to express their concerns about the affect on their property values and their disappointment that their children would no longer attend the school they had planned for.
