That's how many more votes Democratic governor-elect Dan Malloy got than Republican Tom Foley, according to CT's Secretary of State, who officially certified the election results today.

"The only closer margin of victory in an election for Governor in Connecticut took place in 1954, when Democrat Abe Ribicoff defeated Republican John Lodge by 3,115 votes," said CT Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz.

In total, Malloy got 567,278 votes. Foley got 560,874.

The Connecticut governor’s race is still too close to call. As of Wednesday morning, unofficial results show Republican Tom Foley leading Democrat Dan Malloy 50 percent to 49 percent, with 90 percent of precincts reporting. The difference amounts to just over 11,000 votes.

Connecticut is one of three states that held party primaries on Tuesday. Without incumbents for either the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Chris Dodd or the governor's chair currently held by Republican Jodi Rell, several races were hotly contested -- even if the hot weather and dog-days of summer kept most voters away from the polls.
