Soul legend Bobby Womack, hip-hop artist Big Daddy Kane and improv troupe The Upright Citizens Brigade are among the artists who will be performing at this year's SummerStage. The free outdoor performance series, now in its 27th year, will feature more than 110 shows, including 16 theater and dance premieres, at 18 city parks this summer.

On Saturday, the sidewalk ends in Central Park. The author, poet, songwriter and cartoonist Shel Silverstein -- known to many for children's books like Where the Sidewalk Ends -- will be lauded in a, um, "Shelebration" as part of Central Park's SummerStage series.

Now in its twelfth year, the Latin Alternative Music Conference kicks off on Wednesday in New York City. At this year's conferene, it's all about the mujeres.
