Mozart and Stravinsky

Sunday, December 23, 2012

This week’s program’s title, Mozart and Stravinsky, sets up a scenario that at first glance might seem to be a contentious one, however, the music of Stravinsky and Mozart share many similarities. Both composers were supreme craftsmen, employing only the essentials to achieve their musical goals. Both had keen senses of humor and like to provoke listeners with surprises.

The program features Mozart’s “Dissonance” Quartet with the Orion String Quartet and Stravinsky’s Divertimento for Violin and Piano with violinist Ida Kavafian and pianist Anne-Marie McDermott.
