This New Sounds program aims to take a tour of music around the world, in 59 minutes or less. Listen to Bengali, Punjabi, Ethiopian and Senegalese music, along with other sounds. Punjabi wedding music meets New Orleans Brass bands in the music of Brooklyn-based party band Red Baraat, then Samuel Yirga takes the groove of Ethiopian music as his starting point in a trance-jazz tune.

It's that time of the month again for the new releases show on New Sounds. John Schaefer carefully sorts through the stacks and boatloads of new CDs & downloads which have come across his desk over the past month to present some of the finest new releases. He'll pick the lentils from the ashes to present the cream of this crop. Listen for new music by Turkish composer Erdem Helvacioglu & guitarist/composer Bill Walker that marries lap steel guitar and electronic to create wide open soundscapes. Also, hear electric and acoustic selections from a compilation of guitar music, curated by Elliott Sharp, called "I Never Metaguitar Too."
