City Council Pushes for Breakfast in Classrooms

City Council members are urging the Bloomberg administration to get more students who qualify for a free breakfast at school to participate in the program. The Council passed a resolution on Wednesday, by a wide margin, calling on the Education Department to mandate that all schools serve students a free breakfast in classrooms instead of in cafeterias.

Report: Eligible Students Missing Free Breakfasts

A new report shows that New York City comes in dead last among 26 urban school districts when it comes to making sure low-income children receive a free breakfast at school. But education officials say the comparison is not fair because the city's school system is much bigger and more complex than any of its counterparts.
