Singular Electric Guitars
Monday, January 16, 2012
This New Sounds program showcases electric guitarists who have developed their own singular sound, usually in conjunction with electronics and processing. We'll hear from the distinctive guitar hero Vernon Reid, longtime member of the band Living Colour as featured in a duo recording with none other than Bill Frisell. There’s an arresting collection of various guitars, guitar synths, the occasional banjo riff - plus 1980's drum machines! Then listen to a collaborative composition from David Torn, Elliot Sharp and Vernon Reid, along with soundscapes from both David Torn and Robert Fripp.

Robert Fripp’s Soundscapes, Live 2010
Wednesday, December 22, 2010
Electric-guitar based ambient music created in the moment by Robert Fripp is what you’ll hear on this New Sounds. Best known as the founder and leader of King Crimson, he developed a tape-looping technique eventually dubbed “Frippertronics,” which he used when he worked with Brian Eno in the mid 1970’s. (Fripp also formed an acoustic steel string performance-ensemble - the League of Crafty Guitarists in the mid-80’s - which has influenced countless guitarists.)

Robert Fripp’s Soundscapes
Friday, December 03, 2010
Based on his Frippertronics explorations of the ‘70s, English guitarist, composer, and founder of the prog-rock band, King Crimson, Robert Fripp creates site-specific solo performances weaving sonic tapestries with electric guitar and digital effects. Each of these Soundscapes performances is a one-of-a-kind event and is a rare chance to see Fripp live, and according to the artist himself, perhaps for the last time. Free at the World Financial Center's Winter Garden on Friday, Dec. 3 at 12:30PM and 7PM and on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 12:30PM and 7PM.
