Hundreds of Parents Sign Petition Critical of NEST+M Principal

Discord between parents and the principal at the New Explorations Into Science, Technology and Math High School reached a discomfiting peak this week when more than 500 parents and faculty members signed an online petition that criticized the principal, Olga Livanis, as overly punitive in this year’s rating of several well-liked teachers, failing to share important budgetary information with parents, and setting the wrong tone at the school, which is on the Lower East Side.

Wisconsin Petition Against Governor Scott Walker

On Tuesday opponents of Republican Governor Scott Walker will petition for the removal of the controversial governor. If over 540,208 signatures are turned into the Government Accountablity Board, Walker will have to defend his seat in a special election against a Democrat challenger that is not yet chosen.

A local comic is paying homage to the late irreverent comedian George Carlin by trying to get the block where Carlin grew up -- W. 121st St. between Broadway and Amsterdam -- named in his honor. Carlin, who was raised in Morningside Heights, died in 2008.

Artists Boycott Abu Dhabi Guggenheim Over Migrant Workers' Rights

There may be a few key art works missing from the Guggenheim's collection in Abu Dhabi. More than 130 artists have signed onto a petition boycotting the Guggenheim's new Saadiyat Island museum over alleged unfair working conditions for migrant workers building the project.

Wal-Mart and the "Mysterious" Petition

Wal-Mart is seeking signatures from New York City residents in support of its efforts to open stores in the five boroughs. 

“The petition drive is an extension of our social media efforts,” wrote Robert Barletta with The Marino Organization, a public relations firm working with Wal-Mart.
