Five years ago today, Sean Bell was shot and killed by police as he left his bachelor party. To memorialize Bell, his fiancée, Nicole Paultre Bell, headed to the corner of Liverpool Street (now named Sean Bell Way) and 94th Avenue, as she does every year. “That’s my time to think about everything that we’ve been through, everything that Sean went through that night just trying to make it home to his family,” she said.

Ruben Wills, 39, a young political insider who worked for State Sen. Shirley Huntley, was elected City Council Member in a special election in Queens' District 28 on Tuesday. Wills beat out six other candidates to take the seat formerly held by Councilman Thomas White, Jr. who died in August.

Nicole Paultre Bell, the 26-year-old woman who was engaged to marry a man killed by police four years ago, will be on the November ballot for City Council. Paultre Bell is running to succeed Queens Democrat Thomas White, who died in office in August.
