First of Sandy Aid Spelled Out for NY, NJ

U.S. Housing Secretary Shaun Donovan, the so-called Sandy Czar, traveled to a pizza parlor on Staten Island's hard-hit eastern shore Wednesday to announce how the federal government's divvying up $5.6 billion in federal Sandy aid. It'll be split roughly equally among New Jersey, New York state, and New York City.

Earlier this month New York became the first state to pass comprehensive gun control measures in the wake of December's tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. But that hasn't stopped gun owners from pursuing their passion at a gun show in Albany. And in South Carolina, Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon has said that he plans to not enforce gun laws he believes to be unconstitutional.

Sandy Aid: A Breakdown of the President's $60.4 Billion Dollar Request

President Barack Obama asked Congress Friday for $60.4 billion in federal aid for New York, New Jersey and other states hit by Sandy in late October. The aid request, submitted on behalf of the President by Office of Management and Budget Deputy Director Jeffrey Zients, notes that while damage estimates from Hurricane Sandy are not final, it's on track to be the second or third most costly natural disaster in U.S. history, behind Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and close to Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
