U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara says that NY State Senator Malcolm Smith "tried to bribe his way" into a shot at the New York City mayoral race. Both Sen. Smith and New York City Councilman Dan Halloran were arrested this morning for the alleged plot.

In mid-November, news broke that the map-drawing commission was making some eleventh hour moves. There was a change to the final draft map, which moved a single block in Brooklyn. It happened to include the home of Vito Lopez, the assemblyman who was censured over sexual harassment allegations.

All 51 City Council districts will have redrawn lines before the 2013 election. The changes are expected to reflect the results of the newest census data for New York City, which showed demographic shifts in population, including increases within certain minority groups.

Moscow's Park of Culture and Rest was one of the topics in a controversial series of travelogues aired by WNYC in late 1937 and early 1938. Critics of the station charged the broadcasts were Soviet propaganda meant to gloss over the dictatorship of Joseph Stalin.
