Tenants Needed for Tower 3 at Ground Zero or Building Will Be Capped

Developer Larry Silverstein is facing a major problem in his quest to build an office tower at the former site of the World Trade Center: if he can't attract a major tenant for the building known as Tower 3, he can't build the 80-story skyscraper he envisions, and the edifice may instead be capped at seven stories.

In advance of this weekend's ninth anniversary of the terrorist attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center, state officials announced a breakthrough, of sorts.

And Matthew Schuerman sends this dispatch:

At WTC today, Port Authority Chairman Anthony Coscia thanked one by one all the parties involved. When he got to developer Larry Silverstein, who's been trying to wrangle more financial aid for the office towers he's building at the site, Coscia said:

"I'm a child of Italian immigrants, and Italians measure the amount of love they have by how much time they spend arguing with each other. By that measure, Larry and I are very much in love with each other on many levels."

Will Tower at 15 Penn Hurt Development Chances at World Trade Center?

The City Council's vote this week on a new skyscraper in Midtown could have impacts further downtown, where two office towers at the redeveloped World Trade Center will only reach their planned height if there's sufficient commercial demand.
