The governor’s plan to redevelop the Javits Center in Manhattan and build a new convention center in Queens outlined has picked up support from the borough’s chamber of commerce and the Real Estate Board of New York.

If you see a superhero walking around Midtown Manhattan this weekend, chances are he or she is here for Comic Con. The convention kicked off Thursday, and it is about more than just comics. Movies, television shows, books and video games — not all of them based on comics — are represented, and so are the fans.

New York City prides itself on diversity—its rich ethnic tapestry, its international visitors, its confluence of cultures. This past weekend, those traits were celebrated with a twist—or perhaps we should say, a tail at an event designed to introduce the public to breeds of dogs and cats, some with histories as old as recorded civilization.
