A few months ago, members from The Lower Eastside Girls Club visited with Executive Producer of The Greene Space, Indira Etwaroo, to talk about Zora Neale Hurston’s “Their Eyes Were Watching God.” One of the most important issues that the novel and conversation addressed was the significance of a woman’s voice. Etwaroo challenged the young women to write an essay on how they would know that they have found their voice. Aicha Cherifm, 11, wrote the best essay and won an Amazon Kindle. Here is her essay:
