Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday that food stamp recipients will no longer be fingerprinted. It was a controversial policy that Mayor Michael Bloomberg has staunchly defended for years.

Several New York City council members are raising questions about the city's practice of fingerprinting applications for federal food stamps.  The measure was adopted to curb fraud, but some argue that it's deterring thousands of New Yorkers in need from applying for federally funded food stamps.
