Americana Infusion

Monday, October 14, 2013

Drummer Dave King (he of the Bad Plus) is also a pianist who leads the Dave King Trucking Company - what he calls his "Americana project." It's rock-based jazz married to traditional American folk music, or at least classic Nashville sounds of the '60s and '70s.  We'll sample some of this record - "Good Old Light" on this New Sounds.

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Drummer Dave King (he of the Bad Plus) is also a pianist, and he leads the Dave King Trucking Company. King has just released a brand new record of rock-based jazz married to traditional American folk music, or at least classic Nashville sounds of the '60s and '70s.  We'll sample some of this latest release - "Good Old Light" on this New Sounds.  Plus, there's also music from like-minded ensembles, perhaps involving cellist Erik Friedlander and his "Block Ice & Propane, along with something from pipa player Wu Man and her Appalachian friends.  Also, listen for music from Bill Frisell, and something from the Tin Hat Trio, as a tribute to Bill Frisell.

New Releases, February 2011

Monday, February 28, 2011

It's that time again for the monthly program of new releases. John Schaefer picks through the boatloads of CDs that have flooded his inbox to find new releases worthy of showcasing in tonight's program. We'll hear from the new double-release by Todd Reynolds, "Outerborough," a collection of both his own works and pieces written for him by other folks.  Also, hopefully we will sample music from Corsican singers performing Tibetan music, Brooklyn-based Balkan brass band music, and a string quartet for extended just intonation.
