New Sounds Live: Bobby Previte & So Percussion

Saturday, August 31, 2013

From the New Sounds Live Concert Series, we'll hear part of Bobby Previte's "Terminals," a set of five pocket concertos for five different soloists and orchestra, which had its premiere exactly one month ago tonight at Merkin Hall as part of the closing concert of the Ecstatic Music Festival.  So Percussion is the "orchestra" for these works, which left space for the soloists to bring their own improvising voices to the work — voices that Previte knows well from years of collaboration with each.

New Sounds 80's Night

Sunday, May 13, 2012

It's a 1980's extravaganza on this New Sounds, featuring music from the back wall of the New Sounds library.  Among these works from the 1980s is "Prayer for Jimbo Kwesi" from the Art Ensemble of Chicago and "When I Go Up (I Feel Like Shouting)" from Lights In a Fat City.  Also, hear "Open Window" by Bobby Previte and "Ramayana" by The Ordinaires.  Plus a trio of vibes, bass and drums with Karl Berger Dave Holland, and Ed Blackwell, with a piece called "Dakar Dance." And more.
