For this edition of New Sounds, listen to more highlights from the annual new music extravaganza, recorded live this past June of 2010 at the World Financial Center.  We'll hear the concert version of "Shelter" by founding Bang on a Can composers Michael Gordon, Julia Wolfe, and David Lang, as performed by the new music supergroup, Signal, led by Brad Lubman. 

For this New Sounds, we present highlights from the annual new music extravaganza, the Bang on a Can Marathon.  The French bass player, composer and laptop manipulator Florent Ghys writes witty minimalist pop music pieces. We’ll hear some of these, recorded live at the World Financial Center.

The pulsing rhythms of minimalism, as heard in the music of English composer Michael Nyman, and fellow Brit Jeremy Peyton-Jones.  Plus there's music from trombonist/composer Paul Bailey and the "alt-classical garage band" Paul Bailey Ensemble.  It's possible that we'll also hear from guitarist Dominic Frasca and his takeoff of music based on Philip Glass, and more.

This Sunday, October 15 at 2 p.m., join Cued Up on Q2 for some of the top performances from this year's Bang on a Can Marathon. In case you don't know, BOAC Marathon is New York's quintessential new music event. Lasting twelve hours, its genre-blurring programming features a slew of globetrotting musicians and composers in contemporary music. Listen in for some of our favorites.
