Analysis: What a New Flop by Playwright David Mamet Says About Broadway

Friday, December 07, 2012

“The Anarchist” is a new play by David Mamet which just opened last Sunday on Broadway. But due to poor ticket sales and scathing reviews, its producers say it will close next week, on the 16th. The Anarchist is arguably the fastest failure of a major writer’s new play on the Great White way since the 80s, and its demise says a lot about the current state of the art form. Patrick Healy, theater reporter for The New York Times, discusses the issue with WNYC host Marc Garber.
