As More Schools Reopen, Attendance Rises

Three city schools in buildings damaged by Sandy will be able to reopen on Wednesday, but 34 others will remain in their new temporary locations until they can be repaired. Overall attendance at all of the schools that had to go to different locations on Tuesday was 67.1 percent, an improvement over last week's showing of less than 40 percent.

State Identifies Hundreds of Schools for Improvement, Under New System

Now that New York State has a waiver from the federal No Child Left Behind law, it's identified over 700 schools that must plan improvements - but they will have more flexibility over their funds. A total of 354 of the schools are in New York City.

Students Begin to Hear About Their High School Choices

Education officials announced the results for the first round of high school matches Wednesday. With just over 77,000 eighth graders applying, 84 percent of students will be able to attend one of their top five choices. But 10 percent of students did not match at all.
