Park Service Prepares Flight 93 Memorial in Pennsylvania

On Saturday, September 10, a new national memorial will be dedicated in Shanksville, PA, at the site where United Airlines Flight 93 crashed on September 11, 2001, killing all 40 passengers and crew aboard, as well as four hijackers.

A new visitor center will also open, replacing the makeshift museum that currently houses information about the memorial, as well as biographies and tributes to the victims.

In July, workers were busy at the site, preparing it for the dedication. View a slideshow of the site below.

This commemorative installation for the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001 when thousands of lives were lost and the landscape of New York City was changed forever speaks to the unwavering spirit of the City. Adams wanted to create a collage for all New Yorkers to experience a small healing reminder of our strength and resilience. Adams chose variations on the colors red, white and blue to speak to our unity as a nation. We asked New Yorkers to send us images and words of hope. We Will Rise is the outcome.

Look | Tribute in Light Tested on Rainy Night

The Tribute in Light got its first test run of the year Tuesday night, despite the rainy conditions. Technicians on site said it was the rainest test run they've ever conducted, but it was not the first time they've done it in the rain.

Fresh grass has recently been laid at the 9/11 Memorial in preparation for the 10th anniversary. The site will be open by then and play host to a memorial service with victims of the attack and President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush. The Museum is expected to be open a year later.

Look | Sneak Peek at the Fulton Street Transit Center

WNYC got a look at the a half-mile long connection hub known as the Fulton Street Transit Center, which isn't expected to be completed until 2016. The renovation process has uncovered historic tile work and new mosaics are also being installed.
