School Lunch Tables, as Art, Coming to City Parks

Over the course of the past few months, students have turned cafeteria tables into works of art focused on contemporary social issues, such as gun violence or bullying. The tables will be on display in 10 city parks this summer.

DOE Seeks to Phase Out 17 Schools in First Wave of Proposed Closures

The first list is out for this year's proposed school closings. It includes six schools in Brooklyn, five in the Bronx, four in Manhattan and two in Queens. Of the 17 schools proposed for phase out or closure, six received grades of F, nine received a D, and two received their third C grade in a row.

SAT and ACT Test-Takers Face Tighter Security

The College Board's Educational Testing Service, which administers the SAT, and ACT Inc., which administers the ACT exam -- both of which are used for college admissions -- said students will now be required to submit photos with their applications to take the exams. The photos will be printed on their admissions ticket and on the roster at the testing location, and will also be sent to their high schools.
