The transition from high school to college is difficult for almost every student. But the Opportunity Network says its low-income students from New York City are especially vulnerable because they are often the first members of their family to go to college. The program scheduled a summer boot camp to give them a taste of what to expect.

City officials announced in January that they were shutting Williamsburg Charter High School in Brooklyn, because of concerns about its management. Court proceedings have stalled the city's efforts, and with days to go until the school year ends, the freshmen, sophomores and juniors who intended to stay on at the school still have no idea whether it will be open in the fall.

Education officials announced the results for the first round of high school matches Wednesday. With just over 77,000 eighth graders applying, 84 percent of students will be able to attend one of their top five choices. But 10 percent of students did not match at all.
