What Shapes Our Children's Independence?

Midday on WNYC | Sep 12, 2018

Design critic Alexandra Lange discusses her new book The Design of Childhood: How the Material World Shapes Independent Kids. Lange argues that the toys, classrooms, playgrounds, and neighborhoods that children engage with are just as important as class curricula and who they spend time with. Lange reveals the surprising histories behind the human-made elements of our children's landscape. Her fascinating investigation shows how the seemingly innocuous universe of stuff affects kids' behavior, values, and health, often in subtle ways.

On September 25 Alexandra Lange will be speaking at the New Canaan Library in New Canaan, CT, as part of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Glass House.

This segment is guest hosted by Matt Katz.
