I remember Johnny experimenting with a beard and an LSD-influenced backdrop sometime in the 1984/1985 timeframe. Been looking for photo documentation ever since.

I'm surprised "the Bombastic Bushkin" has written a book about Johnny Carson. He comes off looking pretty bad in the PBS American Masters documentary about Carson, apparently as a result of bad investments made by Bushkin with Carson's cash -- the resulting failure was seen as a betrayal by Carson that ended their friendship.
