The Working Families Party (Azi Paybarah/WNYC)

The Working Families Party helped elect a raft of progressive City Council members, and one of their own - Melissa Mark-Viverito - is now speaker. Bill Lipton discusses their agenda, and how they plan to keep Mayor de Blasio accountable, from the left.

good segment, many significant issues addressed, would’ve like more time for depth of analysis.

personally, albeit septuag’y, strongly support single-payer health care and restoration of essentially free college tuition at CUNY (pari passu with restoration of v high entrance standards)

Does anyone understand how the mayor's "dedicated funding stream," touted by all its supporters, can work when he says it expires in five years? This is a real question--I don't understand what is really being proposed.

Full disclosure...Anyone affected there by a richey tax? I'm sensing some resistance from brian every time it comes up...or maybe it is the board or maybe it is just closeness is causing some conventional wisdom breakdown. Something that is a current epidemic on NPR.

I dont want to pay for public financing. How about we ban all political advertising and let the news do its job and interview candidates and do comparisons instead? We don't need to subsidize TV stations with tax money, there are far more worthy causes.

LOL .. real comment #3 (I guess I struck some union nerves.)

BRIAN - can you imagine giving airtime to tobacco companies to whine about whether elected officials have been accountable to them? (!)

WFP (i.e. ACORN) is just another illegitimate special interest group, as dishonest and corrupt as any evil cardboard corporate villains portrayed by Hollywood. In this case it’s just Union & Entitlement Incorporated, LLC.

Please ask about their funding.

BRIAN – Please ask Lipton where they get all the millions & millions of dollars in money that they spread around at election time.
LOL, from the ”working families”?

Isn’t it all from unions ... BIG public sector unions that benefit from processing the skyrocketing entitlements (government jobs!!!) and government pork spending??
Please pin him down. Why can't they admit it?

“Working Families Party” (really ACORN – just rebranded after their scandal) is an oxymoron. It advocates for people who DON’T work (at least at real jobs.) It’s another wealth transfer scheme - siphoning money from the people who DO work and the taxpayers …. but who don’t have any organized voice.

BRIAN – when is the segment for the other side – us – and who will you interview?
