Maps: See Where New Citi Bike Stations Will Be on Upper West and Upper East Sides
The New York City Department of Transportation has released the final maps for Citi Bike locations on the Upper East and Upper West sides. The expansion will add 77 bike share stations to the system.
It's part of an expansion promised last year, when Citi Bike changed ownership. The system will also be adding 92 stations in Long Island City in Queens and the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Bed-Stuy, Williamsburg, and Greenpoint. Â
Currently, the system has 332 docking stations.
Some people wish the number was higher.
"It is sparse compared with the density further south," said Ken Coughlin, a resident of the Upper West Side who is also a member of Community Board 7. "And the Upper East Side is equally sparse."
But not everyone is welcoming the system with open arms. CB7 received 27 pages' worth of public comments, many of which are along the lines of this: "While we are not against the provision of bike stations on the Upper West Side, we are adamantly opposed to having one on our block.")
According to the DOT, stations as far north as 86th Street will installed later this year, with the remaining stations coming in early 2016.
